R. Christian Scott is a 4th generation attorney in Monterey County. His great grandfather, Russell Walter Scott, born in 1895, was the District Attorney of Monterey County in the 1930’s and Salinas City Attorney for over two decades afterwards. His grandfather, Lionel Burr Scott, born in 1918, was the District Attorney of Monterey County in the 1950’s. Russell Walter Scott and Lionel Burr Scott also engaged in a private practice together as a father-son team. Christian Scott's father, Russell Douglas Scott, was a Deputy District Attorney in Monterey County and is currently a Monterey County Superior Court Judge. Russell Christian Scott, born on his great grandfather’s birthday, October 28, chose to pursue the study and practice of law and continue the family’s proud tradition.
Christian Scott graduated from Palma High School in Salinas, California. He attended the University of California, Santa Barbara where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Society. Immediately thereafter, he attended Monterey College of Law, his father's alma mater. While a student at MCOL, he interned for the Monterey County District Attorney’s office, where he gained key trial skills that laid the foundation for his courtroom success today.

Recent Cases Handled
Recently, Mr. Scott was involved in a particularly contentious custody case. His client came to him in dire need of help. She had given birth to her child a mere 20 days earlier. At the time she first met with Mr. Scott, the infant was in the custody of the 20-year old father, who had the mother arrested by accusing her of domestic violence. This father had used this as a means of obtaining temporary custody orders and was requesting permanent physical custody of the infant. Within 2 days, Mr. Scott was able to get family court orders returning the child to the mother and ordering that the father have only supervised visitation. Christian Scott then represented his client in the criminal case which arose from the father’s original accusation of domestic violence. After a 5-day jury trial, his client was found to be not guilty of the charges. Subsequent to the jury trial, Mr. Scott returned to family court and obtained permanent orders granting mother sole legal and sole physical custody of her child.

"I had the best experience!"Mr. Scott represented me in my divorce action. It was a difficult time in my life and dealing with the custody of my children and support issues, Mr. Scott and his team really came through for me. He was aggressive when he needed to be but was able to settle all of my issues outside of the courtroom. I met with other attorneys before I met with Mr. Scott. I am very glad that I waited until I found Christian and at the end of my interview, I hired Mr. Scott. We went to court and everything, but there was no arguing in the courtroom like many of the other cases. Mr. Scott had 4 other cases the morning of my case. When he showed up it was like he was a celebrity. Other attorneys came up to him and greeted him. His other clients greeted him. I even saw the investigator and some mediator come up to him and speak with him. I am very happy with the property division as well. The case took about 6 months from start to finish. I am very happy with my choice. I hope I never need Mr. Scott's services in the future, but if I have a problem, I would go straight back to him and his team.
